About INUMAMI

FOOD - CULTURE - ETHICS - COMPASSION

"Food is never just functional: it is an experience, and it is a choice. It can be nourishment, presence, and care - this is INUMAMI."

At INUMAMI, I share a conscious and intentional way of cooking, one that is ethical, refined, and deeply respectful of the animal world. Every recipe is plant-based, gluten-free, and free from refined sugars, not as a limitation, but as a deliberate choice toward balance and health. INUMAMI was created from a simple awareness: food is never just functional: it is an experience, and it is a choice. Food can take many forms. It can be convenience, it can be beauty, it can be unconscious consumption, or it can be nourishment, presence, and care.

This is INUMAMI.

A collection of plant-based recipes designed to be both wholesome and deeply satisfying, created to be accessible even to those who may still feel distant from a vegan lifestyle. Because here, everything begins with flavor and experience. Alongside the recipes, you will find techniques for plant-based and gluten-free cooking, approaches that open new possibilities, rather than impose limitations. There is also space for a deeper understanding of nutrition. Because while food may not be the only form of care, it can be a powerful form of prevention, and a daily act of awareness.

INUMAMI ETHOS

FOOD THAT RESPECT LIFE

cooking is not only a matter of ingredients. It is a way of relating to the world.

INUMAMI was born from the belief that food can be deeply pleasurable without requiring harm. A dish can be generous, refined, nourishing, and full of flavor while still remaining respectful of animals and of the life around us. This is why every recipe here is entirely plant-based. Because compassion, respect, and care are part of the way food is imagined, prepared, and shared.

INSIDE INUMAMI

RECIPES - LIVING - KNOLEDGE

INUMAMI is a space for plant-based recipes, gluten-free cooking, and conscious food culture, but also for a wider way of living. Because being vegan does not only mean eating plant-based food. It means choosing to live with more awareness, remembering that animals are not resources, but living beings with their own experience of the world. It means recognizing that we are not the only species here, and that this extraordinary place we call Earth is a shared space, not a possession. Alongside recipes, you will find guides on vegan living, ingredients, plant-based cooking techniques, where to eat, nutrition, and ethical choices. The intention is to make conscious living feel more accessible, more beautiful, and more deeply connected to everyday life.

The name INUMAMI is inspired by umami: the intense, deep, mysteriously attractive taste that draws us toward food. It is one of the flavors that makes eating feel rich and satisfying, and plant-based cooking is full of it: in mushrooms, tomatoes, seaweed, fermented foods, legumes, nuts, seeds, slow-cooked vegetables, and the quiet magic of ingredients treated with care.

"Umami is more than a taste. It is a way of entering the experience of food completely: its depth, its presence, its memory, its pleasure. It is the flavor that reminds us that plant-based cooking is not a cuisine of absence, but a cuisine of presence."

Who This Service Is Designed For

All the recipes you find on INUMAMI are original. Whenever a recipe is inspired by or adapted from another author, proper credit is always given, with full respect for their creativity and work. Most importantly, every recipe is carefully tested, refined, and truly enjoyed. This is why the process is not fast, each creation is first studied, then tested, and gradually improved before being shared.

INUMAMI’s recipes are naturally gluten-free and built around ingredients and combinations that are as nourishing and balanced as possible. Even when store-bought products are used, they are carefully selected, prioritizing quality, ethical sourcing, and a mindful approach to impact. At its core, INUMAMI is guided by a simple principle: food should support us, not work against us.

THE STORY BEHIND INUMAMI

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

INUMAMI began as something deeply personal — a space where food, care and meaning could come together

Food · Care · Ritual

My name is Deborah, and INUMAMI is one of the projects I hold closest to my heart. It was born from a place of pain that slowly transformed into something else, something meaningful, something beautiful. I have been vegetarian since birth. Partly by instinct, partly because of the environment I grew up in. The house I was raised in was full of animals, dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, all free, all part of our daily life. It felt natural to me, from a very young age, to recognize that eating animals was not something I could accept. What I did not fully understand at the time was the extent of suffering behind dairy and other animal products. That awareness came later. And when it did, the transition to a fully plant-based way of eating was immediate. It remains one of the most important decisions of my life. Not only because it aligned me, finally, with my values, but because my body responded in ways I had never experienced before. I felt stronger, clearer, healthier.

I made that choice for the animals. But it changed me, too.

In 2024, my beloved dog Safi passed away after a sudden illness. He was still young, and the loss was profound. To me, he was never just a pet. He was a companion, a presence, a teacher. The morning after he was gone, I woke up and prepared his food, something I had done every day for nine years. Only to realize there was no one left to receive it. That moment stayed with me. And in a way, it brought me back to something I had always known: that food is not just function. It is care. It is attention. It is a relationship. Through cooking, I began to rebuild a part of my identity. I started to approach food with the same intention I had always reserved for him, with care, with study, with respect. A form of nourishment that, first and foremost, honors the animal world that has given me more than I could ever repay. From there, something shifted. Food stopped being just nourishment. It became ritual. Creation. Exploration. An expression of love.

A Note From The Kitchen
Food is not just function.
It is care, attention and relationship.

This is what I hope you can experience in the dishes I share. Some are simple, rooted in tradition, and designed to fit into the rhythm of everyday  life. Others are more complex, requiring time, care, and the kind of patience that all meaningful creations ask for.

I am also the founder and voice behind Born Under Saturn, a space where I explore the language of symbols through astrology. I am the author of Born Under a Rising Sign, a book dedicated to the Ascendant and its power to reflect who we are becoming. One day, I hope to bring these two worlds closer together, worlds that, perhaps, are not as separate as they seem. INUMAMI was never meant to be just a collection of recipes. It is a way of paying attention, through food, to life itself. If this resonates with you, you are already part of it.

INUMAMI FAQ's

No. INUMAMI is for anyone who loves good food. Every recipe here is vegan, plant-based, gluten-free, and free from refined sugars, but the intention is not to create a closed space. INUMAMI is for vegans, vegetarians, plant-curious people, and anyone who wants to discover food that is ethical, beautiful, nourishing, and deeply satisfying.

Yes. Every recipe on INUMAMI is created to be gluten-free because one of the goals of this space is inclusivity. Gluten-free cooking allows more people to sit at the same table, including those who have celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or simply prefer to avoid gluten. At the same time, INUMAMI is not built around rigidity. Most recipes can also be prepared with gluten-containing alternatives if that is what you prefer.

Yes. INUMAMI recipes are free from refined sugars because I believe food should be both pleasurable and supportive of our well-being. Sweetness is not excluded here. It is simply approached with more intention. When a recipe needs sweetness, I use ingredients such as fruit, dates, maple syrup, or other less refined options, depending on the dish. The goal is to create food that feels generous, satisfying, and balanced: food that brings pleasure, but also care.

No. Never. I am not against AI or technology when they are used as tools to support creativity, organization, or research. But recipes are different. Food enters the body. It becomes part of us. For this reason, I believe recipes should be created, cooked, tasted, adjusted, and tested in a real kitchen, with real ingredients and real experience. INUMAMI exists because I love cooking. I love experimenting, understanding ingredients, balancing flavors, and discovering what a dish can become. Delegating that part would not make sense to me. Every recipe published on INUMAMI is created and tested by me.

All INUMAMI recipes are designed to be achievable. Some are simpler than others, but every recipe card is explained in detail,  step by step , so that even what seems complex becomes completely doable.
